Jim White Presenter Wife

design study or a brief visit to Nobrand

been a while since the publication of the last post and this, the time it was used as a rest was needed, and we were really missing writing around here. To kick off the new season is the following post:

past couple of years had wanted to go to the Latin American Meeting of Design in Palermo, Argentina.
Finally, this was the year that we did, was put together the trip and in a blink of eyes were stuck on the plane that would take us to Buenos Aires headquarters of the meeting and pass on vacation, taking advantage of the trip.
Del Encuentro be discussed in other post as much to say, this time I want to review Mark: Nobrand.

The first approach with the brand was about an article I found in the meeting, I reviewed my list of lectures and unfortunately had passed his speech. Then I found a magazine which specified several highlights of Argentinean design, the cover was the Carlos Gardel Nobrand I saw before, and on impulse, without knowing the magazine was already in the bag.

At night, relying on home I opened the magazine and pleasantly discovered that Nobrand boys had a store in Palermo area relatively close to where we were staying.

We arrived at the store and needless to say that the things we saw impressed us so much I can say that with many of them it was love at first sight. The Argentimo culture icons we could see up close and were now portrayed in clothing and accessories we just loved, passed through our eyes, che, Gardel, Evita, Diego, empanadas, bandoneon, mate, a rib steak.

A couple of shirts in the bag a few dollars less and began to review other applications of the mark, coming out, had several good hands, which emphasized my mate.

Mate: 'mate is called (in Portuguese chimarrão, "Cimarron" in Guarani Ka'ayguá-ka' a = grass, big-guá = [1]) to the infusion prepared with leaves of yerba mate (Ilex paraguayensis), a plant native to South America, previously dried, cut and milled. The name is generated by extension of the Quechua word mati, meaning cup or drinking vessel, which became widespread and common name of the gourd (the gourd, Lagenaria siceraria) used for this infusion. It has also been called "Paraguay tea" or golden green. [2] As with the tea, coffee or chocolate mate have a stimulatory effect due to caffeine (synonym "mateína") it contains. " (information taken from Wikipedia)
With that said I must say that I love objetual tradition that has "the drink mate" is not taking an herbal tea into a cup. Mate as a drink brings back several objects: the bulb, mate itself and of course the heat to the water. After the object is the rite of preparation, the action of passing from hand to hand mate to share the drink causes hallucinations.

Unpacking the Nobrand Mate
The outer packaging: For a traveler I neglected as the packaging is the need for the perfect mate to get to your destination. The master cylinder is similar to the packaging of "pringels" topped the same way on both sides by metal clasps, the former is free, serves as a lid to be removed after lets us see a "stabilizer" of cardboard quite well thought of graphics and usefulness because it helps the bulb does not hit the walls of the cylinder.

vacuum packing around the cylinder contents serves to keep the yerba mate with an attachment that is at the top can serve the grass in a less cumbersome.

bulb, the bulb finally brings the mate is not common which has an area at the top and bottom absorption area large enough.

Mate: made of ceramic has a nearly spherical shape more like the classic matte pumpkin that many other contemporary designs.

can be found in white, black and transparent (to more than a few translucent shades). The set is really aesthetic and a mild exercise in abstraction we form an icon of the brand.
Now we just need to have a meeting with friends to release the mat with a bit of grass we brought. For the time being and until that happens, I'll have to settle for displaying clothing an occasional Argentina culture icon through the streets of Ecuador.

I hope this review will pave the way for other products designed in Ecuador, I can only say that if anyone knows or has a product to show, do not waste time and communicate with us either in the box comment or email.
