Club Deportivo Cuenca is a soccer team in the city Cuenca, Azuay province. It was founded on March 24, 1971. Its headquarters is Alejandro Serrano Aguilar Stadium and currently plays in Serie A Ecuador, leaving in 2007 in the second position (the champion was Liga de Quito).

In 1970 came the desire to promote football in the city of Cuenca. This desire was reflected through Dr. Alejandro Serrano Aguilar (mayor at the time) and Polybius Messrs. Vasquez and Alfredo Peña.

The public support was immediately before the initiative led by the mayor, thus formed the Sports Commission with Mr. Gilbert Soto, Ricardo Ordonez and Bolivar Lupercio, whose first action was to obtain acceptance of the Ecuadorian Football Federation to participate the city team in the professional field. By meeting in February 1971 in the "Town Hall" of the Most Illustrious Municipality of Cuenca, the project was actually born and Club Deportivo Cuenca. A month later, he founded the Amateur Football Association not Azuay (AFA).

As a club the first decisions were taken: the uniform would be red and yellow with a vertical striped shirt, was the first Head Coach Carlos Alberto Raffo, the first foreign players recruited were Rodolfo Piazza, Paraguayan Luis Martinez who accounted for being the first goal scorer Cuenca and Gerardo Laterza.

At the beginning the team was known as "Red Flannel."
